Buckle Lead SRE Named Winner in Inaugural IT Superhero Awards
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Sept. 24, 2021 — Patrick Flaherty, Lead Site Reliability Engineer at Buckle, the inclusive tech-enabled financial services company serving the gig economy and rising middle class, was named the winner of the Best Team Leader Award in the inaugural Connection IT Superhero Awards. Presented at TechCrunch Disrupt, taking place virtually on Tuesday, September 21 – Thursday, September 23, 2021, the Connection and TechCrunch IT Superhero Awards recognize quiet achievers in IT who work behind the scenes time and again to save the day.
“When I started at Buckle in April, during my first months, Patrick provided me with coaching that helped us all improve engagement,” said Adam Landau, CIO at Buckle and Patrick’s award nominator. “Patrick’s approach has helped everyone to increase their commitment to building a better technology team at Buckle. When we’ve had to find new ways to support our insurance members and employees during the pandemic, Patrick has stepped up to be a de facto leader. From all of us at Buckle, we congratulate him. He is very deserving of this award.”
Five category award winners were announced, including Best Rookie, Best Catch, Most Unshakeable, Best Superpower, and Best Team Leader – leading to success and inspiring others to greatness. The Ultimate IT Superhero will be announced on September 23, 2021.
During the two years which Patrick has been with Buckle, the company has evolved from a digital managing general agency (MGA) into a full insurance platform with four carriers supporting several MGAs with a tech-forward strategy.
Patrick has built a culture of trust, openness, and steady progress, assuring Buckle’s technology that supports affordable, comprehensive auto insurance for gig rideshare and delivery drivers continued to move forward despite the pandemic. In addition to being the technology team de facto leader, Patrick has stepped up to be a SCRUM Master and leader of the security working group. This is in addition to his job as a developer and architect.
“Thank you to Connection for sponsoring such a great award,” said Patrick Flaherty. “In this industry, you expect hard work and burnout, but you don't expect your co-workers to write a persuasive essay about how much you've meant to them and the company over the last year. Thank you to the Buckle leadership; I would have had zero impact without their trust and support. Thank you to the development team for the hard hours they’ve put in with smiling faces and supportive spouses. It is humbling to be appreciated in this way.”
Prior to Buckle, Patrick was Lead Site Reliability Engineer at ChaosSearch. He has held various engineering roles at Burst.com, The Weather Channel, and WSI, among others.
