Have you been wondering, “What rideshare accessories do I need to be successful?” Even the smallest of accessories for rideshare drivers can make a huge impact - especially if you’re new.
Buckle has partnered with Harry Campbell, founder of TheRideshareGuy.com, to provide our Members with the very best tips, tricks, and news to help maximize their income as a rideshare and delivery driver.
If you’re just starting out as a rideshare driver, it can be hard to know exactly what rideshare car accessories you need to be successful. Of course, your phone and a vehicle, but after that, what else? Over the years, as a driver myself and after speaking to thousands of expert drivers, I’ve boiled it down to the top 5 things every new (and veteran!) rideshare driver must have in their cars.
Most Important Accessory for Rideshares: Phone Holders
Phone holders are probably the most important items on our accessories for rideshare drivers list, since many if not most states require you to have them while driving for gig work. There are many different types of phone holders you can install in your car, and it just depends on your preferences.
I have been using a $12 phone mount from Amazon for the past 4 – 5 years and it has never failed me. Mine attaches to the A/C vent and takes just seconds to install.
Some vehicles have vents that don’t work with this type of phone mount, but you can always opt for cup-holder mounts, windshield mounts, or dashboard mounts. There are an endless number of choices for the type of phone mount that you want. You want to find one that is easy and comfortable to reach so you can switch between your rideshare apps with ease while you’re driving.
Rideshare Car Accessory to Keep You Safe: Dash Cameras
Dash cameras are great accessories for rideshare drivers to help keep you safe from potential car accidents or other issues relating to yourself and your car. They can be an essential resource to provide proof for insurance companies when involved in a car accident, for example. They can also be used if any person or vehicle hits your car while you are not present, like when you leave your car in a parking lot.
Some cameras can record when they detect movement, so your car is always safe whether you’re in or away from your car. If you’re driving passengers around, dash cams can also protect you from the passengers inside your vehicle. Having a backup camera is also essential for gig work because it helps you see your surroundings and blind spots without having to crank your head all the time.
Accessory for Rideshare Drivers to Save Money: Cashback Credit Cards
Cashback credit cards are a must-have accessory for rideshare drivers, especially in this current climate. With gas prices on the rise, it’s imperative to keep vehicle costs at a minimum. Before gas prices shot up exponentially this year, I was using a 3% cash-back credit card on gas purchases from Bank of America.
In addition to cashback credit cards, I’d also install some cash back apps as well! My favorites are Upside and Rakuten, which offer cashback on gas purchases and any other purchase you can practically think of, respectively.
Must-have Accessories for Rideshare Cars to Stay Clean: Car Seat Covers
Car seat covers are great accessories for rideshare drivers to protect their car seats. Accidents happen all the time and it is best to stay prepared for them. Uber riders might accidentally spill or drop something on your seats and your seat covers will help protect against unwanted messes or damages.
Having car seat covers will also protect against food and drinks from DoorDash delivery orders, which are also a potential mess if not handled properly or when having to maneuver aggressively due to other drivers on the road. They are also a great investment because you won’t have to spend loads of money to repair any spills or damage to your actual car seats because your covers will protect them, and you can always replace covers if you ever need to.
Rideshare Accessories for Clean Floors: Floor Mats
Floor mats are another great rideshare accessory to help preserve your vehicle. As with seat covers, floor mats also help protect against unwanted messes or damage such as food, drinks, footprints from passengers, and many other things.
I recommend rubber floor mats as I have been using them for the past 5 years and haven’t had any issues with them. They’re easy to clean and are water-resistant as well. I’d recommend car seats that are waterproof or at least water-resistant so that they will last longer, and you won’t need to replace them as often.
These five items will certainly make your life as a rideshare driver easier and safer, plus help to reduce wear and tear on your car. Typically, these items don’t cost a lot, so they’re great, small investments that make your quality of life better. Looking for more tips before the first big day?
