People to Inform

In addition to informing your current insurer, you also need to:

  • Inform your lienholder

  • Contact your state’s department of motor vehicles

  • Cancel automatic payments set up with your financial institution

Helpful tips

1. Know your state’s laws

Don’t go without coverage, not even for a day. Most states require you to have car insurance for your vehicle to be registered or plated. Know the law before you cancel.

2. Inform the company of cancellation

Make sure you tell your insurance company that you plan to cancel to avoid problems. You don’t want to get marked for a lapse in payment.

3. When to switch car insurance

You can switch your insurance at any time. Learn more here.

4. Get Buckle before canceling current policy

Confirm with Buckle you are covered before you cancel your old insurance to avoid problems.
