Car insurance is complicated. Buckle is here to make car insurance easy for rideshare drivers. This page explains what Buckle will cover in our policies.

1- LIABILITY COVERAGES

BODILY INJURY and PROPERTY DAMAGE

What exactly is it?

Bodily Injury will pay for medical and funeral expenses, pain & suffering, disability, and lost wages for other people when you cause an accident.

Property Damage will pay for damages to another vehicle or other property when you cause an accident.

Buckle coverage amounts: “25/50/25”

  • $25,000 Bodily Injury per person

  • $50,000 Total Bodily injury for all injured

  • $25,000 Total Property Damage you cause to property of others, including the other car

Other things to know:

  • Liability coverage protects you and listed drivers when they cause an accident

  • There is no deductible!

  • Bodily Injury and Property Damage are required by law in all states

  • Liability Coverage does not cover you or your family members’ medical expenses (that's what Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection coverages are for).

  • Liability Coverage does not cover you or your family members for pain & suffering due to a bodily injury sustained in an accident but if the accident is caused by another driver who does not have insurance or does not have enough insurance, uninsured motorist coverage and underinsured motorist coverage will protect you and your family.

  • Liability Coverage does not cover damage to your vehicle (that's where Collision and Comprehensive coverages come in).

2- CAR COVERAGES

COLLISION AND COMPREHENSIVE

What exactly is it?

Collision pays for covered damage to your vehicle caused by an accident without regard to whether its your fault or the fault of someone else. Collision coverage will pay for repairs to your car, or for a replacement vehicle.

Comprehensive pays for covered damage to your vehicle caused by anything other than an accident. If your car is damaged by a storm or if it's stolen, Comprehensive coverage will pay for repairs or for a replacement vehicle.

Buckle coverage amounts:

  • This amount is based on the value of your vehicle determined at the time of a claim.

Other things to know:

  • If you are in an accident, whether it is your fault or not, your Collision Coverage can pay to repair the damage.

  • If your vehicle is stolen, your Comprehensive Coverage can pay you the value of your vehicle so that you can buy a replacement.

  • You get to choose the deductible, either $500 or $1000! The higher the deductible the lower the cost, but remember, the higher the deductible, the more you have to pay out-of-pocket if your vehicle gets damaged.

  • The cost for Comprehensive Coverage and collision coverage costs is based on your vehicle. If you have a newer or more expensive car, expect these coverages to cost more than older or less expensive cars.

  • Financing or leasing your vehicle? Your lienholder (lending bank or leasing company) will likely require you to have Collision Coverage and Comprehensive Coverage.

Looking for “FULL COVERAGE”?

That means having LIABILITY COVERAGE, MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE, COLLISION COVERAGE AND COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE and UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORISTS COVERAGE.

3- OTHER COVERAGES

UNINSURED / UNDERINSURED MOTORIST COVERAGE

What exactly is it?

Accidents happen, but if you’re hit by someone who causes bodily injury to you or your relatives but the responsible driver does not have any insurance, or does not have enough insurance, this coverage can pay for the medical expenses, disability, pain & suffering and lost wages sustained by you and your relatives. With “UM” and “UIM” you’re covered when the at-fault driver cannot pay.

In some states you can also buy Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD) to repair damage to your vehicle, and sometimes to repair damage to other property, caused by an uninsured driver.

Buckle UM-UIM Bodily Injury Coverage amounts: “25/50”

  • $25,000 Bodily Injury to one person in an accident

  • $50,000 Maximum available for all persons who sustain bodily injury in an accident

Buckle UM Property Damage Coverage (if offered in your state)

  • $25,000 for damage to your car

Other things to know:

  • UMPD (like Collision Coverage) also covers damage caused by a hit-and-run driver if there is the required proof.

MEDICAL PAYMENTS COVERAGE

What exactly is it?

If you're hurt in an accident, MedPay covers medical expenses for you and your family members. Without it, you may be paying out of pocket, and that can really add up (think about the cost for ambulance rides and emergency room charges).

Buckle coverage amounts:

  • $1000 per person per occurrence

Other things to know:

  • Some states offer Medical Payments, others offer “Personal Injury Protection”.

  • This coverage follows the policyholder and applies without regard to which driver was at-fault.

  • If you are hurt in an accident using public transportation, riding a bike, walking down the street or in a friend's car, you're covered if you are injured in an accident caused by a motor vehicle.

  • If you don’t have health insurance, and are in a car accident, this could come in pretty handy.

4- WHAT ABOUT ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE OR RENTAL COVERAGE?

What exactly is it?

Buckle does not currently offer Roadside Assistance Coverage or Rental Coverage, but you can easily buy it for cheap from great companies like AAA.com or others for less than $5 per month.

  • Many car dealers give you Roadside Assistance for free when you buy a car, and this will provide a tow, a battery jump, a tire change or even help if you lock your keys in the car.

  • Rental Coverage helps if your car is in the shop for repairs or service.
